You can choose, the wild salmon is an option, the farmed is the default, but both are available on the menu
Small place but big portions. Seafood fried rice and sushi special are my favorite!
Placed a take out order for: Nigiri - toro, salmon, tuna, red snapper and aburi toroRolls - California, Dynamite and Spicy TunaChicken Teriyaki DonGreat flavour for the nigiri. Found a long black hair rolled in the dynamite roll though and totally killed my appetite. Please ensure you are more careful with this.
Small space. Big flavours. Really enjoyed the food here . They give a little salad as part of the bento box. Amazing tasty 😋 garlicy fresh dressing made from finely chopped veggies.
Good food, short wait timesBeing their client for about a year and getting sushi over there at least once a week. Always take out, though they have a dine-in option (the place is very small, however). There are some other options in the neighbourhood, but always returning here for take-out eventually.
Pretty awesome! Got a few bit of shell in my sushi but otherwise delicious! Will definitely return!
The sushi at this place is really well priced but also very fresh. Good selection of nigiri and rolls and their sets are well balanced. More bold and modern flavours would make it even better.
The simplest way to describe this place : best bang for your buck.
By FAR the best Sushi I've been to (from over 10 places I've tried in Downtown Vancouver)Excellent selection, fair price, fast service and truly good pieces. I've had around 12 different rolls there already, and never had a bad one. If you are not into sushi overflow, you can try one of the Bentos they have and still have a blast. If you are hungry, order the Sushi Combos (either A or B are crazy good). Their 'Yam Tempura' is the best in town.
Good fish and excellent service, priced really well. The rolls are humongous though, pretty impossible to eat without making a mess (a tighter rolling would be nice. Either that or they'll need to serve it as a sushi burrito instead 🙂). The service was attentive and great. Heads up: this is a tiny place, mostly used as take-away. They do have a few small tables for sit down eating, but there are no facilities; so use the washroom somewhere else before you go in for your meal.
Great little sushi place, with seating for about 16. We went in the late afternoon and the service was amazing and very quick. Tea, which is free, was served immediately and our glasses were refilled promptly. We ordered three 8-pc rolls from the 'Famous Roll' menu, each for CAD$14.95: Davie Street, Dragon, and Lonsdale rolls. All three were huge, and while the Dragon and Lonsdale were excellent, we found the Davie Street roll too deep fried and saucy.I would definitely return!
Legit Japanese place run by Japanese. Tiny seating area and it gets slammed at lunch. They do a lot of take out. Portions are big. Nothing fancy over the top. Just good and fresh.
They were constantly busy the entire time we were there, which is no surprise given how good our food was, and how well priced it was. I highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for a quick bite!
Yamato was our go to sushi place for the last 3-4 years. Prices were great, portions were big and the food was pretty good. We did take out 2-3 times a month. However, a few months ago we were surprised when we were told how much $ our order was. The prices appear to have increased significantly to the point where we will unfortunately have to go elsewhere. $5.95 for a dynamite roll?! Yikes.
their chicken karage and spicy tuna roll is really good.pretty basic items I know, but it's what I usually get at sushi places and Yamato kills it. sashimi is good too but $$$
We always come to Yamato anytime we’re craving some excellent quality sushi! They’re always so friendly, and they really care about their service. They pay extra attention to detail with special orders and never disappoint! For our company meetings we often get the sushi platters, all their food is definitely worth the price! Highly recommend! Thank you Yamato sushi for being the best sushi restaurant in downtown Vancouver.
Great value for your money. Super affordable and lots of variety. Fresh taste. Best sushi place around our place. It's definitively out go to when we don't feel like cooking. It's always busy; it's very small. Would not recommend it for large groups.
Excellent and fresh sushi at a great price. The rolls were perfectly made, accurate, and an extra attention to detail was ensured. Serving size was bigger than expected. Customer service was mediocre but I didn't come there for that.Definitely will be coming back once we visit VBC again! Highly recommended!
The spicy tuna and house rolls are my favorite.
Wow. This place has completely dropped in both quality and value for your food. Used to be fantastic to order from here but lately the portions have probably shrunk by half, whilst the prices have all gone up. We paid 11 dollars for a dynamite roll that literally arrived as 5 small pieces. Agidashi Tofu, 8 bucks, four pieces. Our 70 dollar order was so sub par that we ended up buying sushi from another place. There are loads of sushi restaurants in Vancouver, I would suggest any other one besides for this one.
Super quick and friendly service! Loved the sushi and the portion was generous so I was stuff. Definitely would go back.
Their bento box was delicious! Had the chicken teriyaki and it was nice and tender with nice crunchy twist. I had takoyaki on the side and it was okay, didn't like the inside but the outside texture was great! The box also came with a salad and miso soup. Definitely worth the price for the serving.
Yamato has the best Sushi on Davie street. Highly recommended and is usually always busy. Very great prices and lots of selection. Right near granville street for east downtown access.
I recall this place having good sushi at excellent prices many years ago. I ordered yesterday and was a little dissatisfied. The 8 piece Alaska roll was nothing special for $16.95 which didn’t seem worth it. I’ll stick to ordering salmon and tuna makis and nigiri, basic sushi anyone can make with their eyes closed.
Really good sushi small place 4 tabkes and 4 at a bar table against a window. Friendly staff. Good food glad i found this place. Second time here this week
Best sushi in Vancouver. It’s such a small place but a hidden gem. I must say that everything taste fresh and a great price! You can get a meal just under $20! I would definitely recommend!
it's a lot of portion, but I find the food a little too little portion compared to the price. Still a pretty good spot, would recommend to anyone :)
100% would recommend! Fresh sushi at a reasonable price. Visited on a Wednesday night around 9pm to dine-in. It was busy! Local spot for sushi. The fish is fresh and rolls don't had a ton of rice. Would recommend
Great sushi and great price. Got two plates of dynamite for $12.00. I Would recommend to someone that is looking for a quick bite. My order took about 3 minutes. Super fast.
Awesome little sushi place quick and tasty. We usually get the same thing, Alaska roll, Canuck roll, and pork gyoza. This is the perfect amount of food. If I was hungry I’d also get the chicken katsu don. Forgot to take pictures of the food as I was super hungry and forgot. But it is well presented.
Sushi quality is at the top level here. Wished they had more space to sit. Not recommemded to take your date there, nor for formal settings
I like this small but cozy place. Sushi selections is good and it taste good. I highly recommend chicken teriyaki box. The staff is polite and professional.
My favourite sushi spot in Vancouver! The portions are massive, the prices affordable and the sushi always tastes fresh. The restaurant is tiny though, so it can be difficult to get seating during peak hours!
Good for ordering online. Small space. Don't think they allow dine in now.
The staff is amazing! I am so impressed 👌 the sushi is super fresh and very tasty. They can accommodate almost anything. Spicy tuna roll is highly recommended 🍣 their house salad sauce is just delicious 😋
Fresh and delicious sushi! The dragon mango roll is very original and tasty!
I had the chicken bento box and dynamite roll, it was amazing! Really good sushi and great value.
I asked “could you please only give me half the ginger that you usually give me?” and she said extra ginger will cost $2 more. I said I wanted half not more, less ginger and she said lots ginger right? $2 more. I said no, L - E - S -S, less ginger and she said lots of ginger? Extra $2. I said, no I don’t want lots of ginger - I want half, and she said “nothing ginger”. After a few rounds, she refused my request to talk with someone else and brought up the $2 thing again. This repeated for like more than 10 times - how do you keep patience in this case?I give 5 stars because the sushi is good.
The store is a tiny one! The employees are warm and welcoming! The seating arrangement is cozy!We tend to order in from this place using Doordash! Their sushi is amazing! They always deliver on time!Their spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll are my favourites! Would definitely recommend!
I would probably rate 3.5 if it was an option The sushi os very ok like blunt ok the annoying thing is the portion of each sushi piece is humongous “how to shove this is ?” Was my mantra, crazy. The price is moderate. The staff very friendly. 😝
The best and most consistent sushi in the neighborhood. Small spot so recommend getting takeout and eating in the park.
So much culture and style in such a cozy spot. The prices don't do this place justice but its definitely appreciated.. Best dynamite rolls ever!!
Pretty good sushi. Very fresh. No washrooms on site. Very small sitting area.
Great food and service, decently sized portions. The tempura veggies were huge! (And delicious).
Horrible. It was good in past then drifted towards ok. More orders were taken on then they could manage. I waited long after my wait time along with many waiting customers. My order was eventually given to someone else while my back was turned. I went elsewhere for the same meal.
Had the chicken udon. Great flavor, and really nice presentation. The chicken was moist with almost a hint of a crispy skin. Service was pleasant and can't wait to come again.
Note: no Visa credit cards or Amex cards accepted here.Very friendly, very fast, and great prices and portions. I recommend getting the octopus balls off of their special menu. All of the prices were very reasonable, the sashimi tasted fresh, and they bring you hit tea upon sitting down.Very good place for a quick, late night bite on a budget.
Delicious food and very fresh. The chicken karaage is extra good.
Very good sushi in a convenient location downtown. Currently only open for take out due to covid. I highly recommend the Yamato roll if you like unagi and avocado! Gyoza and sashimi were also excellent. This is my new go to spot downtown.
Food was decent and place was decently priced. There were about six tables and a couple counter height places to sit. Pretty frustrated the place does not have a bathroom for customers. I asked if there was a bathroom nearby, and the waitress pointed across the street at a Seattle based coffee shop. So I had to walk across the street and ninja sneak my way into their bathroom. The sushi specials are a really good deal. It was like 12 or 14 CAD for three or four rolls. It was a good amount of food too. Hot tea and water are served for free. Our waitress was excellent, almost filling up the water every time we took a sip.
Best value for combo boxes (big portions!) and they're quick. Found this place on DoorDash!
